Tree Stump Removal
Stump removal can be done a number of ways. They can be remove
by grinding the stump, mechanically removing (digging and
pulling), burning the stump or even using a chemical stump
remover.
Grinding a tree stump is probably done by a professional
with a machine that chips away at the stump until it is below
the surface. Although you can probably rent a stump grinder
at a local rental store, I suggest getting a quote first.
You will probably find out that it will not be worth renting
one.
Chemically removing a tree stump should only be done if you
can't get a stump remover to the location. Remove the stump
chemically will take many years. But if you don't care this
is a procedure you can use. Once the tree has been cut (as
close to the ground you can get) drill holes 6 inches at an
angle towards the center. Holes should be 3/4 of an inch or
larger. and 2-6 inches deep. Fill them with a commercial stump
killer or for a natural killer you can use table salt or rock
salt. Cover with saw dust, grass clippings or mulch.
If you choose to mechanically remove your tree stump or shrub
stump you should leave 3 or 4 feet of the trunk intact. This
will help by giving you leverage for pulling it out. Only
use this method if the tree or shrub is small enough to make
it possible for you to do this yourself. If you have a larger
stump you should hire it out. When you decide to remove the
stump, don't think you are just going to hook it up to the
truck and pull. (small trees or shrubs will come out) But
larger ones may cause more damage to your truck than you can
handle. (It would have been cheaper to hire it out) For larger
ones you will want to dig a trench around the stump and use
an axe to chop some of the roots.
Tree stump removal can be dangerous so make sure your wear
your safty gear.
